INDIAN ENGINEERING SERVICES (IES) 2014 ENTRANCE EXAM will be conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on 20th June, 2014 and it is 3 day long process. The application form and notifications will be released on 15th March, 2014 and the last date for applying for IES 2014 entrance Exam is 14th April, 2014. The entrance Exam of IES is conducted once in a year. Indian Engineering Service (IES) exam primarily constitutes of Engineers who work for or under Government Of India. - The candidate must be an Indian Citizen, subject to Nepal and Bhutan.
- Tibetan refugee candidates shifted their base to India before 1st January, 1962.
- The candidates of Indian origin migrated from neighbour counties like Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Burma and East African Countries of Uganda, Kenya, Zambia, Ethiopia, Vietnam etc.
- For the candidates of subject to Nepal, Bhutan , Tibetan refugee and migrated are required to submit a “Certificate Of Eligibility” issued by the Government Of India.
- The candidate applying for IES 2014 Entrance Exam must have attained age of 21 years but should not be older than 30 years.
APPLICATION FORM AND REGISTRATION PROCEDURE OF IES 2014 ENTRANCE EXAM: For availing the application form of IES 2014 the candidates have to visit the UPSC official website and go to UPSC online application link and click on the form then the candidate needs to fill all the information asked in the form. It is advisable to the candidates that they submit only the single application. The registration for IES 2014 Entrance Exam has to be made online only although the payment can be made inonline and offline mode. The online mode is related to making transaction through online gateways and Offline mode is related to making payment at any branch of SBI bank. APPLICATION FEE OF IES 2014 ENTRANCE EXAM:
- The fee for application form for the General Category and OBC category student is Rs. 200 where as,
- Candidates of SC, ST, PH, female are exempted from paying the application fee.
- The payment of application fee can be made in online and offline modes and no other mode can be used by the candidates.
SELECTION PROCEDURE OF IES 2014 ENTRANCE EXAM: The selection procedure for IES 2014 Entrance Exam is not very rigorous and it only involves two steps, the first step is the written examination and the second step is Personality or Personal Interview of the shortlisted candidates. FOLLOWING ARE THE BASIS OF IES 2014 ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: A) NATIONALITY:
- The candidates applying for IES 2014 must either be an Indian Citizen or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan.
- A Tibetan refugee who made India is his/her permanent base before January 1st, 1962.
- A person or candidate of Indian origin migrated from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Burma or East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Vietnam, Ethiopia etc also fall under the IES 2014 Eligibility Criteria.
- The candidate mentioned in 2nd, 3rd and with subject to Nepal and Bhutan have to produce acertificate of eligibility issued by the Government Of India till the certificate is not produced there admission will be on temporary basis.
B) AGE LIMIT:
- The minimum age attained by the candidate is 21 years and the candidate must not be more than 30 years.
- The candidate must fall in the age bracket of 21 to 30 years on 1st August of the year of examination.
- The upper age limit is 30 but is relaxed in case of Government servants and has been increased to 35 years but the candidate has to be an employee of any department or office under any authority like Railway Department, Central Public Works Department, Military Engineer Service department etc in order to fall in the eligibility criteria of IES 2014.
C). EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS OR QUALIFICATIONS:
- A candidate must have an Engineering degree from a University incorporated by an Act of the Central Government or State Legislature in India.
- The candidate must have passed section A & B of the institutes or University examination.
- The candidate must have passed a Graduate Membership examination of the institute of electronic and Telecommunication of India OR Obtained a degree/ diploma in Engineering from such foreign institute/ university and under such condition as may be recognizable in the eye of Government for the purpose from time to time OR passed Associate Membership examination part II and III/ Sections A and B of the Aeronautical society of India OR passed graduate Membership examination of the Institution of Electronics and Radio Engineers, London held after November, 1959 are required to be in the eligibility criteria of IES 2014.
D). PHYSICAL STANDARDS: The candidates applying must be physically and mentally fit as per the physical standards laid by UPSC with regard to the eligibility criteria of IES 2014.
Procedural steps to be followed for making the IES 2014 Application Form:
- The IES 2014 Application form will be made available in the online mode and has to be filled online, for that the candidate has to go to the official website of UPSC or candidate can click on the tab mentioned above.
- If the candidates is filling the application form through UPSC official website the candidate will have to go the link of UPSC online application on the left side of the website or if the candidate clicks on the above tab then it will redirect candidate straight to the application form.
- As when the candidate is on the application Form, the candidate will realize there are lot information that has to be filled by the candidate and also there is block in which the candidate has fix the scanned photograph and at the end of the form the candidate also has to upload the scanned signature.
- All the information must be filled carefully by the candidate and should be according to the class Xth and XIIth passing certificates.
- After the candidate has followed the above mentioned steps then the candidate must choose either of the option of making payment. Online and Offline payment options are available to the candidates.
- Once the candidate has made payment through either modes the candidates must click on the Submit button and as soon as the form is submitted by the candidate a registration id and password will be generated which has to be used by the candidates for future references like download of admit card, result, scorecard etc.
MODES OF PAYMENT: The application Form fee for SC, ST and Female candidate is not applicable i.e there are exempted from the payment of application fee where as, the candidates belonging to General Category and OBC Category is Rs. 200 and the amount can be made in the following modes: A). ONLINE MODE OF PAYMENT: In Online mode the candidate has to choose the online payment option and payment can be made through visa/ master credit card, debit card or net banking facility of SBI, State Bank Of Bikaner & Jaipur, State Bank Of Hyderabad, State Bank Of Mysore, State Bank Of Patiala, State Bank Of Travancore. The candidate must fill in all the bank details very carefully. B). OFFLINE MODE OF PAYMENT: In Offline mode the candidate has to make payment in cash and the candidate making payment through offline mode can make payment through E-slip which is generated when the candidate opts for offline payment and go to State Bank Of India and make payment and also candidate must not forget to take the student copy of payment receipt. NOTE: While making payment for IES 2014 application form the candidates must be alert as fee once paid will not be refunded also the payment has to made in the prescribed modes only otherwise the payment will not be accepted. Where as, the General awareness sections deals with the day to day affairs of the country. This section syllabus cannot be defined OR prescribed as it is something with the candidates ability of reading and in this case the more he/she reads the more chances of the candidates to perform well in the particular section. IES 2014 EXAM CENTERS | TEST CENTERS
This particular article depicts the extensive list of exam centers where the candidate can come and give the exam. The exam centers will be booked on first cum and first serve basis there are no reservations that takes place or either allowed so, the candidate must book their slots as when the notice is released regarding the booking of exam centers for getting the test centers of their choice. FOLLOWING ARE THE PRIVILEGES IN TERMS OF IES 2014 RESERVATION OF SEATS GIVEN TO THE RESERVED CATEGORY:
- The SC, ST and Female candidates are exempted from payment of application of fee however, the OBC and General Category candidates will have pay Rs. 200 as application fee.

- The upper age limit is maximum of 5 years in case of Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST).
- Upto a maximum of three years is relaxed in the case of OBC candidates in relation to IES 2014 Reservation Of Seats.
- Upto a maximum of of five years if a candidate had ordinarily been domiciled in the state of Jammu and Kashmir during the period ranging from 1st January, 1980 to 31st December, 1989.
- Upto a maximum of three years for Defence Service Personnel disable in operations during hostility.
- The IES 2014 Reservation Of seats are also made for ex-servicemen including commissioned Officer and ECOs/SSCOs who have atleast rendered 5 years military service is upto maximum of three years,
- Upto a maximum of five years is relaxed in the case of ECOs/ SSCOs and have completed an initial period of five years of Military services.
- The candidate in whose case Ministry of Defence has issued the certificate and the upper age limit has been extended beyond five years.
- Upto a maximum of 10 years in case of deaf mute and orthopaedically handicapped candidates.

- The candidates can avail the application form either on the UPSC official website or directly by clicking the tab mentioned above.
- The candidates have to fill all the details in the application form, the information pertains to candidates personal, academic and professional backgrounds.
- The candidate while making Online registration for IES 2014 the candidate must not forget to upload the scanned picture and signature as without uploading them the registration process is incomplete.
- After all this the candidate has to make payment which can be made in online and offline modes. In online modes the candidate can opt for online gateways like credit card, debit card or net banking while in offline mode the candidate has to make payment in cash by depositing E slip that is generated as an when the candidate opts for Offline payment.
- After submission of the form a unique id and password will be generated that has to be noted by the candidate and used for further references.
BELOW IS THE DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF IES 2014 SELECTION PROCEDURE:
A). WRITTEN TEST/ EXAM: The written test for IES 2014 will be conducted on 20th June, 2014 for which the application form will be released from 15th March, 2014 till 14th April, 2014. The registration for IES will be made online only but the candidate has the liberty of making payment in online and offline mode.The written test basically consists of two papers, paper 1 is English and General Awareness and this is anmandatory paper that every candidate appearing for the exam has to give and the paper 2 is an optional paper and every candidate has to choose one option from civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and electronics and telecommunication engineering and these papers are calledconventional papers where the paper 1 or section 1 will have objective type questions. There will be negative marking as well and for every incorrect answer one- third mark will be deducted.
B) PERSONAL INTERVIEW: The second step in the IES 2014 selection procedure is personality test or personal interview conducted by IES officials for the shortlisted candidates and before the personal interview the candidate also has to submit the necessary documents for the verification. In this round thecandidate has to face the panel consisting of esteemed and learned people which diagnose and scrutinize the candidate on various parameters and this round is conducted for total of 200 marks.
